マンモス・フォーエバー
いやー、どーもお久しぶり過ぎます。
「褐色の恋人」というコピーが世の中で一番マーベラスと思っている隊長です。
スジャータ、サイコー。バキューン。
さて、最近の隊長ですが、ちょっと前まで
プチ家出をしておりました。
そして、プチ家出ついでに、また日本最強の癒しスポット「国立科学博物館」に行ってきたのを思い出し、筆を取らせていただいた次第です。
その際は一人じゃなく、恩師にあたる田中夫妻と御同行。
お二人には、全く人のペースを考えないデフォルト独歩の隊長式「科博の歩き方」を心ゆくまで恐悦至極していただきました。
で、やっぱり地球館B２階のキチ○イ哺乳類に、目がいってしまうんですよね。
そして、今回は改めて
マンモスくん達
に、ヤラレました。

いや～。
いいですね、ツノは。
ツノ、ツノ、ツノ、角ですよ。
ツノ・イズ・オーバーですよ。
それにしてもなんでこんなに響いたんでしょうか？
今まで隊長は、古代哺乳類界のメインストリームを突っ走るマンモスなんてナンパな存在だとしか見ていませんでした。
事実、ごく最近まで、
「万博に出たからってウカレやがって。アングラながら、よっぽどインドリコテリウムの方が本物だわ！」
と、思っていたのです。
それが、急に・・・
アレですかね？

みたいなもんですかね？
NO マンモス NO LIFE ですよー。
今回は現世の動物達（はく製）のステージから攻めていったから、余計マンモスの巨像が際立ちましたね。
マンモスと象の違いって、「毛が生えてるか生えてないかでしょ。」のイメージの人いません？？
俄然、違います。
まー、デカさはそんなに変わらんす。
アフリカゾウで肩高3～4m、インドゾウ肩高2.8m～3.3m。
比べて、マンモスは体長3ｍ～4.5ｍ。（最大は松花江マンモス肩高4.7ｍ）
ナウマンゾウの類を頭数に入れていくとマンモス類平均肩高はゾウ平均より低いかも知れません。
じゃー、何が違うのか。
それはですね、牙なんですよ、牙・・・
下手するとですね～・・・
ゾウさん牙より、マンモス牙は～
２倍ビッグ！
もう信じられない！真珠られない！
ゾウの牙は2ｍ～3ｍ程度が平均らしいですが、マンモスは結構4ｍオーバー出してるらしいんですよ。
体の大きさは、そんな変わらないのに、どうなってんでしょう？
1933年にテキサスで見つかったインペリアル・マンモスの牙は先端が少しかけていたにも関わらず、
長さ4.9m
もあり、根元の周囲は61cmだったそうな・・・

とっても気持ちがわかります。
そしてさらにスゴイ話がー！
北海道大学の福田正巳先生というマンモス研究では不動の立ち位置を築き上げたカリスマのお言葉です。
「マンモスは頭部が非常に大きく、その重みで
後ろに下がれなかった
のです。」
なんて前向きなんでしょう。
ひたむき過ぎて、狩られちゃってたなんて。
もう、まるで現役時代の
北澤ですね。
ガムシャラだなー。
そして！そっしてー！！
なんと現代にマンモスを蘇らせるプロジェクトがあるらしいのですよ！
「永久凍土のマンモスから精子が取れた場合、象の卵子にICSIで入れると象とマンモスの遺伝子を半分ずつもつ雑種第一代の動物が得られる。
この動物の卵子にもう一度マンモスの精子をICSIで入れると75％の遺伝子がマンモスになった雑種第二代が得られるはずである。
これを数回続けるとほとんどの遺伝子がマンモスとなり、
マンモスの復活
を図ることができる。」
いつの日か生マンモスを眼に焼き付ける日が来るやも知れません。
